ARCTIC GRAYLING, A MICHIGAN DRY FLY FISHERMAN'S DREAM
an article by Jeff Johnson...read it
Here!
Battle
the TROUT...not the crowds.
Enjoy a guided drift boat fly
fishing
trip.
Explore the Au Sable River’s less traveled “Trophy Waters” below
Mio.
The AuSable River Trophy Waters
From the dam in Mio to the backwaters of the Alcona pond, there are over
30 “river miles” of free flowing water in this tailwater fishery.
This is “big water fishing” and if there were mountains in the
background, you would feel like you were fishing a large western river.
There is no better way to enjoy fly fishing than floating high above the
water casting to trout from the comfort of a drift boat.
You will cover more water in a day than you could wade in a season,
exploring sections of the river that see much less fishing pressure.
Floating the AuSable is very scenic with frequent views of bald eagles,
deer and mink, not to mention all three species of resident trout.
All trips include a cooked streamside dinner. Our guides are licensed
from Michigan’s DNR and commercially permitted in the national forests.
All equipment, except waders, is provided. (Note: we rent waders for
$10 per person if needed).
We have been given good reviews by Eric Sharp, outdoor writer for the
Detroit Free Press, Great Lakes Outdoors TV show on Public television,
Michigan Woods N Waters magazine, Flint Journal and Trout Unlimited’s
magazine, Michigan Trout.
We specialize in “beginners” and “family friendly trips” as our trips do
not include any alcohol, tobacco products or colorful language. Fly
fishing for us is a way of life and our guides do not “watch the
clock”. Owner, Michael Johnson is a third generation fly fisherman.
All of our guides really enjoy being out on the river. Our goal is that
by the end of the day we have taught each person sufficient instructions
so that they are ready to explore fly fishing on their own.
So take a day off work, invite your wife, child or friend and create a
memory on one of Michigan’s most famous rivers.

"If
you are after lunker browns, try the main river...
Fishing pressure is limited because there is little access. But
local
anglers catch some huge browns on flies and small spoons..."

PERSONAL
RECOMMENDATIONS
Please pack very light. It will give you more floor space from which to
cast.
Take your time and drive safely. If you are a bit late, don’t worry.
We will just fish later. Keep your cell phone and watch in your car to
keep them safe and dry. Eat a good meal
just before your fishing trip begins.
